Half Of Men To Get Cancer By 2027, Experts Predicts

Half of all British men are likely to be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime by the year 2027, experts predict.
Men in the UK currently have a 44% chance of developing the disease.
Women's risk is also expected to increase from 40% to 44% in the next 15 years.
The better news is that proportionally fewer people are likely to be dying of cancer thanks to improved methods of diagnosis and treatment.
Over the last 40 years, cancer survival has doubled, figures show.
The projections, from Cancer Research UK, are based on past incidence and death rates and assume a continuation of trends.

They do not take into account new forms of treatment, lifestyle and environmental changes that might alter future cancer rates.
Age is the biggest risk factor for cancer and the increase in incident rates largely reflect the fact that people are living longer, said the charity.
The cancers set to affect people most in the next 15 years are prostate, bowel and melanoma (skin).

Relaunched cancer campaign set to increase GP visits

The Government has announced its national bowel cancer awareness campaign is to be relaunched next month, prompting a rise in visits to GPs from patients.

The four-week national advertising campaign will run from 28 August as an ongoing effort to boost early detection rates of cancer by encouraging people with symptoms to see their GP.

This follows the Be Clear on Cancer campaign that ran for nine weeks from the end of January to March, which followed pilots in some parts of the country last year.

A new letter sent to all NHS trusts and health authorities from national clinical director for cancer Professor Mike Richards announced the refreshed campaign as well as other awareness campaigns due to happen next year for different types of cancer.

Bowel cancer: Are you aware of the signs?

THE national bowel cancer awareness campaign is now in full swing.
Aiming to raise awareness of the signs and symptoms of bowel cancer, the Be Clear On Cancer campaign, which runs until the end of the month, is encouraging people to visit their doctor straight away if they have any signs or symptoms.
More than 90 per cent of those diagnosed with early stage bowel cancer are successfully treated, so a trip to the doctors could save your life.
Dr John Parker, a GP from the Morrill Street Practice in east Hull, wants people to be aware that for your GP, talking about these problems is an everyday thing – you do not need to be embarrassed.
He said: "Our aim is to detect serious bowel disease, particularly cancer, at an early stage.
"It is important to make your GP your first port of call should you notice a change in your bowels – in particular looseness lasting for more than three weeks or the presence of blood at any time.
